Several new reports were published recently by international NGOs highlighting the plight of Rroma in Kosovo. In fact, these report show that, contrary to what many governments claim, the situation of ethnic minorities has not improved at all in the region.
Human Right Watch expresses concerns over the situation of Rroma in Serbia and highlights the destitute condition of IDPs and forced returnees from Western Europe. Regarding Kosovo, HRW shows that there is an ongoing discrimination of Rroma in the region, and that they are still excluded from political decision making.
HRW also states that returning refugees to Kosovo do not benefit from any assistance in Kosovo.
Amnesty International, in their latest report on the region severely criticises the Kosovo judiciary system, stating that the system failed to judge and condemn many inter ethnic crimes. It also states that in spite of seven years of international oversight, the Kosovo justice system is still not capable to address such crimes and competently prosecute them.
